Atlanta is coming into it’s own. It’s long been the capital of the South, but there is a transformation going on in Atlanta that has been in the works for 20 years but seems to have picked up steam in the past 1-2 years for some reason. It’s turning into a city with city-like access and urban life. Midtown is leading it.
Went down to the Atlanta Jazz Festival to check out the one and only Roy Ayers funk the park. This is one of the grooviest guys out there today and he’s been holding it down for decades. Check the link for a live track to one of his classics.
Was in New York City in the meatpacking district recently and pointed my camera at this guy to take the shot – he decided to ham it up for the lens. His buddy not so much….
This corner place [ La Esquina ]is a great place in the SOHO area to get great Mexican street food plus they have horchata. They key though is to call way in advance and book a table in the surreal and candle lit basement laden with tequilas and a very funky crowd. Maybe you’ll run into Slash.
How to explain to my kids that this is how people used to make phone calls and they had to stand there the whole time to get it done?
Went to see the one and only Incognito in Atlanta on April 7th. This is hands down one of the best performing bands in the world today led since something like 30 years by Bluey. If you know Incognito’s style then you’re already in tune with great music - if you don’t know Incognito you should check them out. Killer grooves, lush vocals and harmonies, great horn section, and this line up featured a 21 year old percussion player from Portugal and new drummer from Rome, Italy who were both incredible. I live in Atlanta so I almost never take photos here. I decided to change that on a pre-sunrise trip to the airport yesterday. I stopped to snap a series of shots between 6am and 7:30am just as the sun was coming up. This is one of those shots of Atlanta.
